Well I am going talk about a word that has been thrown around a lot lately this gaming generation, Fanboy. Now this term refers to an individual who believes, right or wrong, the game company or system is the best ever. Now I know what you are saying, “What the hell does this guy know about being a fanboy?”. Well you are wrong. Even though I do play everything, I know what it is about being a fanboy. I am a Sega fanboy, always have been , always will be. The thing is, being a fanboy of a company is one thing, but it is the console fanboyism that is the real problem. I know I am going to piss a bunch of people off, but enough is enough. Now, don’t get me wrong, if you only have one system because of financial reasons, I understand. It is the people who love one console above all is a little ridiculous. Has everyone forgotten what the term gamer means? I have another article coming about being a gamer. That is why I consider myself a diehard gaming enthusiast. This editor is a gamer of varied tastes.
But there is a lot to be said about being a fanboy. Fanboys are dedicated and developers like talking to them and getting their feedback. They are always with the preorders and they usually stand in line on release day. Fanboyism has its purpose, but if you are a true fanboy you can limit your gaming experience. One thing fanboys love to talk about is console exclusives. That is a great topic for conversations or a way to defend ones console of choice, but exclusives are not the only games in town. Don’t get me wrong, the exclusive titles do define a console to a point. One of the many examples of this is the Uncharted 2. This game is a marvel of storytelling, art style and gameplay. Uncharted 2 is truly worthy of the “Game of the Year” accolades it has received. Uncharted 2 is one of the many reasons to own a Playstation 3. Mass Effect one of the best reasons to own a Xbox 360. Here is another epic game with great story, graphics and gameplay. Mass Effect also deserves its “Game of the Year” accolades as well. Mass Effect is one of the best games ever made. Super Mario Galaxy/New Super Mario Bros. Wii are two of the reasons to own a Wii. If you want great varied gameplay and just outright fun, then you cannot do wrong with either title. Wait did I mention the word “fun”? Wow I haven’t heard that word in the gaming media in quite some time. That is the reason why I feel that fanboyism may be good for the industry but it is not good for gamers. By being a fanboy of a console give you a very jaded view of other games or consoles. Fanboyism limits the “fun” aspect of gaming. Isn’t that the reason you picked up you first controller in the first place?
